In Italy from the 1950s till the end of the last century, these types of items were produced in their hundreds for all manner of events such as weddings, christenings etc. They were extremely popular during the 1970s and 1980s, when wealthy families would gift them to each other or use them to make a good impression on their guests due to the figurines being made of silver and generally expensive to produce.
