TIFFANY STERLING BOWL c1860 " AESTHETIC " " 3rd MADE ". An important c1860 Tiffany Civil War period sterling silver hand decorated bowl & cover. Made by Grosjean & Woodward, the New York shop crafted silver. For Tiffany from 1853 - 1865, before Tiffany opened its own in-house silver shop. Raised pear shape with feathered leaf framed shield united by floral sprays.
Scallop rim and panel with hand decorated twin leaf and vine. Pavilion cover retains the original melon fluted finial. Above Japanese inspired chrysanthemum petal surround. Realistically cast branch handles, with striated and knotted wood surfaces. Wrapped in leaf and vine, rising from three satin leaf terminal.
Gothic N for the original owner. This museum worthy c1860 Tiffany sterling branch handle covered bowl. Is 7 inches tall and 7 across handles and weighs 25 standard ounces. Interior clean as if little if ever used.Rich silver patina retains original detail. Lower, the order number " 3 " indicates this was literally the third BOWL made in this.
