Figural Sterling Silver Songbird Pin Cushion. Possibly Made By Topazio's Silversmiths. The feather curls on its head give this little bird an Art Deco style of design. Yet, on its body, each of the feathers are sweetly detailed and it has the cutest little feet.
Hallmarks Put This c1985, Made for Export. The 2nd Hallmark, a Shield, is Tough to Read. Because Cazenovia Abroad offers this model of bird as miniatures & ornaments, it's most likely made by Topazio of Portugal. This design has been used for spice boxes, salt & pepper shakers, trinkets, miniatures & ornaments. They've been made out of Sterling Silver (as is this pin cushion), 800 Silver, & Silver Plate. Of all the designs, this pin cushion, is the hardest one to find. From it's beak to tail it's about 3 1/4. 2" tall & 1 1/2" Wide. Pin Cushion is covered in deep red velvet, and this has begun to show its vintage age by sinking down a tad. I could find no damage to the Sterling, no dents nor any other issues.Wear commiserate with an item minimally used & on display in a collection. Because this is my favorite design, I also have it in the spice box, salt & pepper shakers, etc.
All of these birds, regardless of metal content have the same mold seams on both sides near their heads. In the photos these may appear as scratches or damage, yet as mentioned above, its not damage.
